Use of the calculators
The calculators on OffGridVolts are free to use for personal and commercial planning. They give estimates based on the formulas and typical values shown on each page. Real systems are affected by temperature, cable quality, connections, component tolerances, battery age and installation method.

Electrical safety
- Lead-acid and lithium batteries can deliver hundreds or thousands of amps into a short circuit. Fuse every positive cable close to the battery.
- Mains (230 V or 120/240 V AC) wiring, including inverter outputs and hook-up or shore power, should be installed or checked by a qualified electrician and must meet local regulations (for example BS 7671 in the UK or the NEC in the US).
- Follow battery and charger manufacturers' charging limits and ventilation requirements.
